Dawn's Scrap Room - Part 3

 Hello, Memory Bound friends!
Over the past few days, we've been having fun seeing the progress Dawn is making on her scrap room! In Part 1, she cleared the room of everything, just like they do on HGTV. :) In Part 2, handy hubby Dennis put together her new desk and cube system. In today's post, you'll see the room starting to come together!

Dawn enlisted help from her daughter Amanda and son-in-law Sean. They spray-painted a shelf she dug out of her brother's garage ages ago.

They also spray painted an old school table Dawn had saved and sealed them both with polyurethane. Wait until you see how these pieces look in Dawn's new space!

After the big pieces were assembled and placed in the room, Dawn started moving her supplies back into the space.

You can see progress...but she still has a bit more to do! :) Notice how she placed her counter-height desk in the center of the room. This makes it accessible from all sides.

Here's another of Dawn's helpers...ALMOST sleeping on the job!

Dawn found her desk and cube shelving units at Homemakers. I love the shelves on the side of the desk! She found the canvas bins to fit the cubes at Target.

As you're organizing your space, one of the questions you need to think about is this: Do you prefer "open" or "closed" storage? If you like to see your supplies so you'll remember what you have, then you'll like open storage containers (such as clear jars) which allow you to see the contents. If you prefer to see only the supplies you're working with for a particular project, then you'll like closed storage (such as canvas bins which hide the contents). Dawn decided she prefers open storage, so she is keeping that in mind as she looks for storage solutions.

The closet is going to provide lots of storage space for her supplies. I'm excited to see how she organizes it!

I know I shared this picture in our last post, but it's so cute I need to share it again! I hope Dawn kept that bottom cube open for Sunny!

Sunny even matches the space! :)

Stay tuned as Dawn continues to make progress in her beautiful room! Thanks for the inspiration, Dawn!

Dawn's Scrap Room - Part 2

Hello, Memory Bound friends!
Dawn is excited to be re-doing her scrap room, and we're all very excited for her! In Part 1, Dawn cleared the space and installed new flooring. In today's post, she focuses on the big pieces of furniture in the room.

After choosing a cube system and desk, Dawn and her husband Dennis spent an exciting Friday evening putting together the cubes. Look at all of these parts! Can you say "SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED" ???

They arranged the boards on the floor of the room...
...and began assembling the cube unit.

And here's the beautiful finished unit! It looks like they read the instructions, because they have no extra parts! LOL

I love this system. It even fits one or more cats! :)

Once the cube unit was finished, Dawn and Dennis started on the desk, which also came with the label "SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED"! Poor Dennis...we only see the back of his head in these photos. Hopefully there's a smile on his face! :)

Meanwhile, Dawn sorted through her supplies to identify items she no longer needs. She plans to sell a LOT of stuff at the next Memory Bound Garage Sale, tentatively planned for September. Here's a tip: After you've cleared your space, put back only the items you wish to keep. There is no sense trying to organize items you'll never use!

Stay tuned for Part 3, when Dawn starts moving her supplies back into the space! It's coming together very quickly and we're super excited to see the finished room!

Thanks for the inspiration, Dawn!

Dawn's Scrap Room - Part 1

Hello, Memory Bound friends!
In addition to paper crafts, one of my favorite activities is ORGANIZING! That's why I'm so excited about Dawn's scrap room project. Back in January, Dawn vowed that 2013 would be the year she would re-do her craft space (read her resolution here) and I'm happy to report that she has made big-time progress toward her goal!

In today's post, I'll share some photos of what Dawn has accomplished in just a few days' time. This is proof that if you set your mind on a specific goal, you can truly accomplish big things!

Dawn is lucky to have a nice first floor room with big windows. But as you can see in these BEFORE pictures, her work space could be just a TAD bit more organized! :)

Dawn loves the wall color (as do I!) so plans to keep it the same.

Here's a view of the other side of the room before she got started.

The first step in any reorganization project is to clear out the room. This is Dawn's living room after she moved all the stuff out of her craft space. She also took over other rooms in the house, including her bedroom. OH, MY! Things always look darkest before the DAWN, right??? (Sorry...could not resist!)

Here's the room all cleared out! As you can see, Dawn started with a carpeted space.

Funny story: Dawn and I talked about flooring options one day last week and by noon that same day, she had been to the store and picked out new hardwood. A contractor happened to be at the store and offered to install it that very day, so before the day was over, she had her new floor in place! How awesomely speedy is that? I love the look of this floor with her wall color!

Dawn is planning to use the closet for storage. When I re-organized my craft room last summer, I decided to use my walk-in closet as the main storage area for my supplies. I absolutely love my closet space (see it here) and am excited to see how Dawn decides to use her closet!

Stay tuned for more updates about Dawn's scrap room project! Wait until you see the storage cubes and desk she purchased!

Thanks for the inspiration, Dawn!
