Dabbling in Zentangle at Girls' Night Out!

Hello, Memory Bound friends!

Our Girls' Night Out group meets monthly for inspiration and fun. Lately the group has learning a new technique each time, facilitated by one of the group members. At the most recent meeting, customer Janis Timmons introduced the group to Zentangle.

What is Zentangle?  

According to Zentangle.com:

Zentangle is an easy to learn method of creating beautiful images from repetitive patterns. 

In other words, it is a structured, "contained" doodle with repetitive patterns. Here are some samples I found around the web:

 

 

 

 

Zentangle shapes can be drawn by hand, but Janis taught the group how to incorporate STENCILS into a Zentangle project. In this example, Janis used a bird stencil and filled it with repeating patterns. Beautiful!

Here, Janis created a frame and sectioned it off into segments, then filled each one with a free-hand pattern:

Here Janis used overlapping leaf shapes and filled them with fall colors. This would make a lovely card front or home decor piece!

  

Zentangle projects can be monochromatic (often black/white) or colorful. If you want to color your Zentangle image, you can use colored pencils, watercolor, or Copic markers, to name just a few options. Janis showed the group how to use Ranger Distress Markers to add color to Zentangle drawings created on Neenah white cardstock.

 

Zentangle is very popular right now, and for good reason! By all accounts, it's very fun and relaxing! The ladies of Girls Night Out thoroughly enjoyed learning about this art form! Thank you, Janis!

If you're looking for fun and inspiration, Girls' Night Out is for you! This lively and creative group meets once a month at Memory Bound. Those attending bring along and share the crafty projects they've been working on over the past month. Our Girls Night Out group has evolved into an active group which does special projects (such as our recipe book circle project), field trips, crops, and more.

Girls' Night Out Fall Field Trip

Hello, Memory Bound friends! 
In today's post, we'll share some photos from our recent Girls' Night Out field trip! The ladies spent a beautiful fall afternoon doing some shopping in the East Village and visiting Waterworks Park for some photography inspiration.

 The ladies hit a few vintage shops in the East Village. Here you can see Jill, Janis, Janice, and Jennifer (all the letter "J" ladies!) doing a bit of shopping to get the afternoon started!

Jennifer took advantage of the perfect weather to take some fall pictures of her girls. And Diane caught this great picture of Jennifer capturing a beautiful image. Love it!

The group included Jennifer, Jill, Diane, Janis, Peggy, RaNae, Diana, and Janice.

Do you know what happens when you take a group of avid scrapbookers and photographers to a beautiful place like Waterworks Park? I'm sure hundreds of photos were taken that day!

The group found all kinds of interesting photo opportunities. Here are some of Diane's shots from the day. Love the texture on this one!

Girls' Night Out (+1) Picnic!

Hello, Memory Bound friends!
"Good Friends - Good Food - Good Times"

Have you heard about our Girls' Night Out group? This fun group meets monthly for inspiration and sharing! (You can read all about the group HERE.) And I'll let you in on a little secret: Quite often there is FOOD involved! :)

For the August meeting, the ladies decided to have a potluck/picnic. Diane graciously offered her home as the venue. It was a wonderful evening of friendship, laughter, and sharing. And as you can see, there was no shortage of delicious treats!

 

 Since the event took place at Diane's house, her husband Rich joined the group for the evening, making it Girls' Night Out +1! By all accounts, he fit right in! :)

Almost all of our regular ladies attended that evening: Diane, RaNae, Jennifer, Janice, Peggy, Fonda, Diana, Bonnie, Janis, and Karen. What a great group!
